How to modernize your elevators and escalators?

When you decide to modernize your elevator, KONE ensures a smooth process from start to finish. For each project, KONE assigns a project manager who manages the whole process. Their job is to provide a single point of contact, to answer any questions you might have, and to make sure that the project is completed on time and on budget. They can also provide information about permits, subsidies and regulations.

They coordinate everything from planning to installation. When the installation is complete, KONE conducts a safety and performance inspection, making sure the new elevator meets the relevant norms.

A step-by-step guide

Before you begin

Before you start, it’s best to be sure of exactly what needs to be done. We perform a KONE Care for Life™ assessment, producing a full report that shows where there may be deficiencies in your elevator, together with an action plan to get it working optimally. Doing the assessment does not obligate you in any way.

Getting started

The first step is to gather information about the relevant regulations, building permits and available subsidies. Various local or national programs may provide subsidies or tax credits for modernizing an elevator in order to improve safety, accessibility and energy efficiency.

In order to help you discuss elevator modernization with building owners and residents, we have prepared a short presentation. Contact us to help you analyze the energy-efficiency of your elevator with the KONE Care for Life service and to get a cost estimate for modernizing your equipment. This does not obligate you in any way.

Modernization solutions speed up the planning process. They have been developed to address the issues of safety, performance and energy efficiency in elevators in residential or commercial buildings. Before installation begins, your KONE contact conducts a site survey to make sure you get the right solution for your requirements.

During installation, we do everything we can to minimize disturbance to residents and makes sure that no damage is done to the building. During the project, we keep residents informed about its progress and carry out the final safety and performance inspections before final handover to the client. We also ensure environmentally friendly removal, disposal, or recycling of the old equipment.

Maintaining people flow

When modernizing an elevator group, you might expect traffic capacity to decrease when elevators are out of service. The KONE Modernization Interface eliminates capacity decrease during modernization and can even increase people flow capacity during the project. Read more here: KONE Modernization Interface »

To keep your elevator running reliably and safely for decades, KONE provides KONE Care™ maintenance services. The services are based on preventive maintenance to detect and fix potential problems before they lead to stoppage of the equipment.
