KONE Inc., press release, May 14, 2013
KONE Inc. announced today that its local branches will present the Safe-T Rider program to 12 schools across the country in honor of Safety Week. The programs will teach safe elevator and escalator riding habits to young children.
The program will reach a total of 1,080 children in eight states, including four schools in the Quad Cities of Ill. and Iowa, as well as schools in Atlanta; Chicago; San Francisco; Portland, Ore.; Detroit, Mich.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Springfield, Ill.
"Safety Week is a time for KONE to re-commit to passenger safety," said Corey Ward, Vice President of Environmental Health & Safety for KONE Americas. "We're thankful for the opportunity to use this time to educate young riders on elevator safety and to help prevent incidents through the Safe-T Rider program."
KONE has dedicated Safety Week (May 13-17) to educating employees and the public on safety at work and while riding vertical transportation. In addition to Safe-T Rider presentations, KONE will be conducting safety training for its customers and employees.
KONE adopted the Safe-T Rider program in 2009 when it accepted the challenge to take its safety message to the school districts of each of its branches. In four years, KONE has provided elevator and escalator education to nearly 30,000 children in over 25 states and provinces.
The Safe-T Rider program was created by the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) in 1993 with the goal of keeping children safe on elevators, escalators, and moving sidewalks.
